Freshman Programs

There are many programs on campus created specifically for freshman students. The Office of Student Involvement and Leadership sponsors Freshman Forum, a unique leadership development program exclusively for freshmen that has been at the University of Alabama since 1960. For more information on Freshman Forum, please click here.

If you are interested in having a mentor during your first year on campus, there are a variety of mentoring programs available on campus that are focused on easing your transition to campus. cUltivAte Peer Mentors, who are a part of the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership, work exclusively with Freshman Learning Communities and Compass courses. Many of these courses will have a peer mentor who works with the classes. Other mentoring programs are found in specific colleges or have special interests. If you are interested in having a peer mentor, please contact our office, and a staff member will help to match you with a program that fits your interests.

The First Year Council is also an exclusively freshman organization. The First Year Council is the representative body of the freshman class in the University of Alabama Student Government Association. More information about the First Year Council can be found here.

Students are encouraged to get involved in organizations that match their interests. Student involvement week and Get On Board Day are both excellent ways to discover organizations in which you may want to be involved. To search the variety of student organizations that is found on the University of Alabama campus and to obtain more information about specific organizations, please view the Student Organization Directory.
